Watch: Killian Hayes and Mo Wagner turn NBA court into a full-fledged MMA Octagon or brutal brawl

Publish date: 2024-07-16

The game between Detroit Pistons and Orlando Magic turned into an MMA fight in the 2nd quarter. Moritz Wagner and Killian Hayes had a fight with 33 seconds left in the second quarter. When the two were fighting for a loose ball, Wagner shoved Hayes out of bounds and Hayes fell on the Pistons’ bench. In retaliation, Hayes struck the German forward in the back of the head. What followed was nothing less than an official MMA battle or a brutal brawl.

As it appeared, Wagner and Hayes were pursuing the ball after Caleb Houstan’s poor pass when Wagner shoved his opponent off the field. The Pistons’ bench instantly responded as they all surrounded Wagner. Hamidou Diallo shoved Wagner into Isaiah Stewart, who was then struck in the back of the head by Hayes, briefly leaving him unconscious.

Players from both Magic and Pistons teams became involved, which prompted the arena announcer to warn courtside supporters against getting rowdy. Wagner, Hayes, and Diallo were the three players who were directly involved in the altercation and were all ejected from the game. In addition to Hayes and Hamadou Diallo being dismissed for their involvement in the fight’s escalating aftermath, Wagner was ejected for a flagrant foul.

Malice at the Palace revisited as Killian Hayes knocks Mo Wagner unconscious for a moment

As the fight broke out between the two teams following Killian Hayes knocking Mo Wagner, the announcer was heard saying “nobody move, stay in your seats.” Perhaps, he was reminded of the infamous fight that took place in Detroit in a game between Indiana Pacers and the Detroit Pistons

NBA fan remembered the most infamous altercation between Metta World Peace formerly known as Ron Artest and Ben Wallace. The infamous brawl is also known as Malice at the Palace. Recently, Netflix released a documentary about the biggest and the worst fight in NBA history.

As it happened, Metta was hit by a cup that was thrown at him by a spectator in the crowd. Previously, in the game, World Peace was involved in an altercation with Ben Wallace. World Peace responded by entering the stands and attacking the spectators in the fight. Stephen Jackson, a member of the Indiana Pacers, came after him and started punching the fans.

World Peace was suspended for the remaining 73 regular season games, and also for the playoffs. Stephen Jackson was slapped with a 30-game suspension in the regular season. There’s a chance that Mo Wagner and Killian Hayes could also be suspended and fined for their altercation.
