WATCH: Former Ballon dOr winner George Weah seen dribbling past defenders at 56
George Weah, the only African to have his name in the illustrious list of Ballon d’Or winners, was seen rolling back the years in a video on Sunday. What looked like a normal kickabout, was turned into an exhibition of how to break ankles in one hundred ways by the 56-year-old.
The president of Liberia showed off his skills with his characteristic swagger breezing past the opposition defenders as if they were practice cones. George Weah was one of the biggest names in football in the 1990s. He won the FIFA World Player of the Year in 1995, the first and since then, the only African player to do so.
The video showed Weah taking on players half his age and beating them with feints and shuffles. In one part, a player trying to rush into the former AC Milan man, saw him pull out a croqueta prime Andres Iniesta would be proud of. He was also seen sitting goalkeepers down to pass the ball into the net in one play.
Weah also showed his burst of pace against one defender who struggled to keep up with his nimble feet and rapid change of direction, even at an old age. The video ended with clips of Weah during his prime.
