Thomas Edward Patrick Brady Jr. (born 3 August 1977) is a renowned American football quarterback currently with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the National Football League (NFL).

Amongst the late picks in the 2000 NFL draft, Brady is regarded as the greatest late selection in NFL history.

The four-time Super Bowl MVP award winner is an efficient quarterback and considered by many elite sports analysts as the greatest in that role.

Thomas Edward Patrick Brady Jr. was born on 3 August 1977 in San Mateo, California, as the only son and fourth child of his father, Thomas Brady Sr. and mother, Galynn Patricia Brady.

His parents both have roots that trace to Europe, his father being Irish while his mother being a combination of Swedish, German, Polish, and Norwegian.

From an early age, Brady had taken great interest in American football.

He often would go to Candlestick Park to watch the San Francisco 49ers play.

Growing up, Brady admired veteran quarterback Joe Montana and made the star his idol.

Brady’s love for football made him want to pursue a career in the sport

That desire led him to attend football camp, where future NFL quarterback Tony Graziani, thought them the basics of the sport.

In high school, Brady, already armed with considerable skill and experience in American football, was actively involved in sports.

He played baseball, basketball as well as football during his high school days at Junípero Serra High School.

In high school, Brady got a shot at becoming his varsity starting quarterback following the injury of the lad that held the position.

He got his shot in his junior year and held on to the position until he graduated from high school.

To be recruited by a college, Brady sent tapes of his performance to colleges, and he received feedback from several.

At first, he struggled to cope with the frustration of lack of playtime.

Brady eventually rose to the starting position in his third and final year and became the captain.

New England Patriots (2000–2019)

Coming into the 2000 NFL draft, Brady’s name was not at the top spots in the minds of NFL franchises.

In the 2000 NFL Draft, Brady was selected as the 199th pick by the New England Patriots in the 6th round.

Brady had a good rookie year, but by his second season, he had already improved and thus put up an incredible performance to earn Super Bowl XXXVI MVP award and his first Super Bowl title.

He as well headed a successful 2001 campaign as the Patriots finished first in the AFC East.

By the 2002 season, his passing abilities, work rate, and brilliance were noticed, and he was trusted to become the Patriots’ starting quarterback.

After missing out on the 2002 playoffs, Brady led the Patriots to claim two successive Super Bowl titles at the Super Bowl XXXVIII and XXXIX.

He received Super Bowl MVP award at the XXXVIII edition.

Brady threw his career’s first 4,000 yards and topped in the NFL passers rating in the 2005 season while setting a record in the NFL for winning 10 successive playoffs in 6 seasons.

In 2007, Brady led the Patriots to finish the regular season with a 16-0 perfect record, winning all games played in the regular season and participating once again in the Super Bowl, which they lost.

However, Brady was named the NFL Most Valuable Player, the first of his career.

He also won the Male Athlete of the Year by the associated press, a rarely given award last won by Brady’s icon, Joe Montana, in the ’80s.

Brady spent almost the whole 2008 season away from football action following a knee injury he picked up in the opening fixture.

He returned in the 2009 season and won the Comeback Player of the Year following his undoubted showpieces through the season.

Brady unanimously won his 2nd NFL MVP award in 2010 and recorded an NFL hallmark of 358 sequential passes without an interception.

He also spearheaded the Patriots’ AFC Championship victory and their participation in the 2011 Super Bowl, which they lost. 

Brady aided the patriots to an impressive 12 wins from 16 in the 2012 season.

In the 14th week of the regular season, he picked the AFC Offensive Player of the Week honor.

He helped the Patriots to record at least 500 points for the 4th time, as they became the 1st team in the NFL to set that record.

That season he was also listed in the Pro Bowl and came 4th in the NFL top 100.

Brady had a 52-game touchdown streak in 2013, seconding Drew Brees’ record of 54, and was listed to the Pro Bowl again for the 9th time.

In 2014, the Patriots won the Super Bowl, and Brady’s performance earned him the Super Bowl MVP for the 3rd time.

In 2015, Brady was given a four-game suspension by the NFL on the basis of withholding some crucial information during an investigation on Patriots employees’ involvements in deflating balls.

Brady broke the Super Bowl record for the highest passing yards as he threw 505 yards in the 2017 season.

The Patriots went on to win the Super Bowl again in 2016 and 2018, and Brady was named the MVP for the earlier.

Nearing the end of 2019 and the decade, Brady was named the NFL athlete of the decade by Sporting News.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2020–present)

In March 2020, Brady was traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on a two-year contract.

Brady’s career number #12 was already taken by Buccaneers’ wide receiver Chris Godwin, but the latter agreed to switch to #14, giving the #12 to Brady.

On September 13, in his debut game for the Buccaneers in the 2020 season, Brady completed 23 of 36 passes for 239 yards, 2 touchdowns, 2 interceptions, and a rushing touchdown in a 34–23 loss against the New Orleans Saints.

For the seventh time in his career, Brady marked five touchdowns in a 38–31 victory over the Chargers, making him the oldest quarterback to record a five-touchdown game.

He displayed exceptional performances, finishing the 2020 season with 40 passing touchdowns, 4,633 passing yards, and 12 interceptions.

Brady led his team to a 31–26 victory in the NFC Championship game over Aaron Rodgers led Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field, securing his record-extending tenth Super Bowl appearance.

He also became the fourth NFL quarterback to lead two different franchises to the Super Bowl.
