Shaquille O’Neal and Charles Barkley have provided NBA fans with more than enough bytes to laugh along with over their broadcasting tenure. Their constant banter and bickering were born from being friends as well as respecting each other. But that respect aside, the two do not mind going at each other. That sprung an idea in the 4-time champion’s mind which he shared with Dana White.

The UFC President was a guest on the podcast, The Big Podcast with Shaq. As he talked about how he brought Power Slap into being a mainstream sport, the Big Aristotle brought up a suggestion.

September 19th, Me vs you, Charles Barkley. I’mma smack the sh*t out of your ****.
Shaquille O’Neal suggested

To this Dana White replied, “I love it, I’m in, suggesting that he would love to promote it if the two NBA Hall of Famers have a go at it. After all, the two of them would draw major attention to Power Slap, giving White a brilliant marketing opportunity.

Charles Barkley and Shaquille O’Neal have taken swings at each other during their NBA clashes. But once they knew that their mothers were good friends, they blossomed as friends on their own. That friendship has seen them taking playful shots at each other.

In most cases, the aggressor hits the other and runs away. Showing that it is nothing but banter. But that banter can certainly turn into a battle of the ages if the two go up against each other in Power Slap. Possibly helping Dana White make millions off of it.

Shaquille O’Neal and Charles Barkley’s fight in 1999 started their friendship

Charles Barkley was near the end of his career when Shaquille O’Neal was starting to take flight. So, it was natural for the one about to leave, to be slightly wary of the other who is starting to dominate. It seems Barkley felt that way when the two clashed on November 10th, 1999.

As Barkley went up for a shot, O’Neal’s outstretched arm tried to stop it. O’Neal then gave the then Houston Rockets star a shove. Seeing this, the round mound of rebound retaliated by throwing the ball at the Los Angeles Lakers superstar’s head. In the next instant, O’Neal swung at Barkley, missed, and then both grappled with each other until they had to be separated.

That fight was the last time they were aggressive at each other, as they found out that their mothers were good friends. They both understood what would happen and then grew into being friends off the court. Something they continue to this day.
