Yellowjackets star Sammi Hanratty is giving fans a sneak peek of what to expect on the hit Showtime show. Haratty shared a picture of herself from behind the scenes, wearing a beige swimsuit with her hair dramatically messy. "All I gotta say is tonight's episode is a wild one," she captioned the post. How does she stay so fit? Hanratty follows a vegan, plant-based diet. "Plants give your body what it needs to help fight off infection," says Andrea Murray, MD Anderson health education specialist. "A plant-based diet strengthens your immune system to protect you against germs and microorganisms. Antioxidants in plants grab all these so-called free radicals that can throw your body off balance. To reduce inflammation, it's important to eat plant-based and to listen to your body's signals for how foods work for you."

Hanratty incorporates resistance training into her workouts. "We're very familiar with the benefits of aerobic exercise like running, cycling or walking, but we haven't focused on lifting and strength exercise. They're seen on either ends of the spectrum – one makes you strong and muscular and one helps you live longer but that's not true. The reality is the two, in terms of health benefits, overlap more than they differ," says Dr. Stuart Phillips, a McMaster University professor in kinesiology and Canada Research Chair in skeletal muscle health.

Hanratty uses battle ropes as part of her workout routine. "The key to their effectiveness is that they work each arm independently, eliminating strength imbalances as they sculpt your muscle," says John Brookfield, creator of the original battling-ropes system. "Try different motions to work different muscles and skills."

Hanratty lives with a gut condition that means certain foods are strictly off limits. "I didn't really know what was wrong with me for most of my life," she says. "It's so crazy because I've been working for twenty years now—I started when I was six—and any time I had a break and wasn't filming, I was sick. It was almost like my body wouldn't let me be sick when I had work, and the second a weekend came, I would have a fever and we didn't really know what was going on. Thankfully, we found it it's all linked to the foods I eat. So now, I can't really eat anything. I'm allergic to avocados, cucumbers, broccoli, banana, cinnamon, curry, fennel, ginger. So many things. But now I'm not sick all the time, so… yay!"

Hanratty has dealt with anxiety in the past. "It's funny because you don't think you're going to talk about something, and then somebody like Christina [Ricci] opens it up and you're like 'Oh, is it okay for you to say this?' But, yeah, I had a hard time with my anxiety onset," she tells Teen Vogue. "For the first time in my life I got on medication for my anxiety because it was getting so bad, and when you're dressed up and not looking like yourself and not being treated how you normally would it can affect you in not the best of ways. I become more self conscious when I'm in my Misty gear."
