Ore. mom says she was forced to breastfeed in bathroom by Marshalls employee
TROUTDALE, Ore. -- An Oregon mom claims she was forced to breastfeed her baby in a bathroom because an employee at Marshalls department store wouldn't let her into a dressing room.
According to Karina Gomez's Facebook post that is getting nationwide attention, she was shopping at the Cascade Station Marshalls store in Portland when she asked an employee if she could use a dressing room to breastfeed her 2-month-old child. The employee, Gomez claims, directed her to a nearby bathroom.
"My child could care less where I feed her, but for me to be sent to the bathroom to feed her I find shameful," Gomez wrote.
A spokesperson for Marshalls released the following statement to KATU News:
"We have a breast feeding policy in place which instructs associates to allow customers to breastfeed as they choose within stores. We have looked into this matter and regret that it may not have been followed in this instance. We have asked the customer involved to reach out to us directly so we may resolve the matter and apologize for any inconvenience."
Metro-area moms have also taken to the social media site to plan a "nurse-in" on Monday morning at the same store where the incident allegedly happened.
