Marc-André Leclerc Net Worth – $150,000

What was Marc-André Leclerc’s net worth at the time of his death? Who was Marc-André Leclerc’s girlfriend?

Introduction

Marc-André Leclerc was a Canadian rock climber and alpinist who made the first winter solos of the Emperor Face of Mount Robson in Canada and Patagonia’s Torre Egger.

He never chased the headline-making climbs. He was a meticulous climber. He was an innovator.

Biography

Leclerc was born on October 10, 1992, in Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada.

He grew up in Agassiz, British Columba.

His mother, Michelle Kuipers, stayed home with Marc, while his father, Serge Leclerc, worked construction.

At age 9, Marc-André started climbing at Project Climbing gym in Abbotsford.

At age 10, Leclerc joined a gym called Project Climbing in Abbotsford, British Columbia.

In 2005, he won the Canadian Nationals.

For his fifteenth birthday, his mom gave him Mountaineering: The Freedom of the Hills. The book inspired Leclerc to join the British Columbia Mountaineering Society.

“He had a fascination with mountains from the beginning,” his mother said.

During high school, he was an avid member of the British Columbia Mountaineering Club.

At age 15, Leclerc was already leading climbing expeditions that included adults.

In 2009, he soloed the north face of Cheam Peak (6,903 feet).

The Grand Wall

In September 2013, Leclerc soloed the Grand Wall in a record-setting 57:30.

In January 2014, he climbed a giant wall on Cerro Mariposa in northern Patagonia.

In February 2015, he soloed the 4,000-foot Corkscrew route (5.10d, A1) on Cerro Torre. His ascent was completed in wet and icy conditions.

In April 2016, Leclerc and Luka Lindic climbed the first ascent of Mount Tuzo’s northeast face. In the same year, Leclerc soloed Infinite Patience VI M7 on Mount Robson’s Emperor Face.

In September 2016, Marc-André completed the Winter Link-Up on Torre Egger in a 21-hour round trip. Also in 2016, he was featured in the documentary Reel Rock 11.

In June 2017, he free-soloed two walls (in a day), Ha Ling and EEOR, in the Canadian Rockies.

In February 2018, Leclerc and Brette Harrington climbed a new route up Station D near Mount Slesse. “Some trickery is involved to get through the various cruxes,” Brette detailed on her Instagram.

The Alpinist

Leclerc is the subject of The Alpinist, a documentary released posthumously in 2021.

The documentary is produced by Peter Mortimer and Nick Rosen.

Rosen and Mortimer also produced The Dawn Wall, a documentary that follows Kevin Jorgeson and Tommy Caldwell as they ascend the Dawn Wall of El Capitan.

Girlfriend

Marc-André Leclerc was in a relationship with his girlfriend, Brette Harrington.

Brette is a soloist and alpinist, who climbed El Capitan in Yosemite, Chiaro di Luna, Sugarloaf in Lake Tahoe, and more.

They met in Squamish in 2012.

Leclerc and Harrington made trips together to the Canadian Rockies, Yosemite, and Baffin Island.

“We matched on intensity,” she revealed.

Death

On March 5, 2018,  Marc-André Leclerc and Ryan Johnson passed away while on a climb in Alaska.

Leclerc was only 25 years old when he died.

To generate money for the search and rescue operations, a GoFundMe account has been created. However, the search and rescue mission had to be slowed down due to bad weather.

Their bodies have not been located.

Alaska State Troopers said in a statement: “due to the circumstances, Johnson and Leclerc are presumed deceased.”

Marc-André was survived by his sister, Bridgid-Anne Dunning, brother, Elijah, and parents, Michelle Kuipers and Serge Leclerc.

“Marc-André lived the life he was meant to live,” Michelle said.

“Marc lived life to the fullest,” Harrington revealed in a previous interview. “Marc had figured out what he loved and what made him happiest.”

“After he died, nothing mattered,” Harrington said in 2021.

“Marc-André was an amazing, loving man, and he has touched many lives in so many ways,” his father wrote on Facebook.

“Marc-André was one of the most badass climbers on Earth,” alpinist Colin Haley said.

“A true climber’s climber who had a deep love of adventuring in the mountains,” Alex Honnold wrote on his Instagram.
