Man charged in triple murder not a killer
BOISE, Idaho (AP) - An attorney for a man charged with the murder of his girlfriend and two young children says his client did flee from Idaho in 2002, but he's not a killer.
Defense attorney Terry Ratliff said an Elmore County jury Monday that Jorge Orozco left Idaho because he was in the United State illegally and because someone had shot at his car.
Jorge Alberto Lopez-Orozco pleaded not guilty to three counts of first degree murder in connection with the deaths of Rebecca Ramirez and her 4-year-old and 2-year-old sons in 2002.
Orozco was captured in Mexico in 2009 and extradited to Idaho in 2011. The trial could last several weeks. If convicted, Orozco faces up to life in prison.
