LeBron James advised son and new Lakers teammate Bronny James to listen to his coaches
LeBron James is about to start his 22nd season. Having come into the league straight out of high school, he knows the perils of the game. He knows the development one needs to play at a high level and last this long. This is why he gave the ultimate advice to his son, Bronny James before he started life as an NBA player with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Bronny James was introduced to the press conference along with fellow draftee, Dalton Knecht. There a reporter asked him what his father has been telling him about life in the NBA. The 19-year-old said:
We haven't gone too deep into that stuff yet. Especially because we haven't started Summer League yet. But you know just stuff that he's been telling me my whole life. Just having that work ethic and coming in and getting your work in. Listening to your coaches and being coachable.Bronny James at a recent press conference
LeBron James knows his son is still a raw prospect. He is omeone who needs to be coached up so that he can understand the nuances of the league.
The Los Angeles Lakers have taken a new approach this season. They want to develop their younger players so that they can get the best out of them instead of constantly trading for stars. This approach will benefit the likes of James Jr.
He already has unreal athleticism. If the Lakers coaching staff headed by JJ Redick can improve his scoring and defense, then the Lakers will have a proper player at their disposal. He could be someone who can help when the starters need rest.
LeBron James dapped up Bronny James after press conference
When the press conference started, the only people on the podium were rookies Bronny James, Dalton Knecht, head coach JJ Redick, and GM Rob Pelinka. However, LeBron James slowly made his way inside the UCLA practice arena. After the press conference was over, James Jr. walked up to his father and they both dapped each other up.
That was their first dap up as Los Angeles Lakers teammates. This is something that the basketball universe will get to see at least for the next 2-3 years. However, as a father, he stood there the entire time listening to how he handled the questions thrown at him. James Sr. knows his son will be scrutinized extensively by the media.
But what better way than to have his son under his wing during his formative years in the league? With the heightened attention thanks to social media, Bronny James will have to make the best of the opportunity that he has.
