Commentator accidentally calls Serena Williams husband Alexis Ohanian her personal Umbrella ho

Publish date: 2024-07-09

Serena Williams attended the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics on Friday. She was joined by her husband, Alexis Ohanian. The former tennis star dazzled in a fiery-red midi dress as she walked the red carpet.

While at the event, there was a notable mistake by a Eurosport commentator. They failed to recognize Serena’s husband, who was holding an umbrella for the 23-time Singles Grand Slam singles champion.

The dress was designed by Dolce & Gabbana and was from their fall 2023 collection. It was made of lace, tulle, and chiffon, creating a body-con shape with draped details. The dress also had sheer long sleeves and tulle lining.

She looks absolutely incredible. She’s got someone just behind us holding an umbrella-- Those are the levels you aspire to. To have an actual umbrella holder behind you.

Commentator: “it’s great that Serena Williams even has her own personal umbrella holder”

That ‘umbrella holder’ is her HUSBAND and the co-founder of Reddit, Alexis Ohanian 😭😂 pic.twitter.com/1PW6ZiaxHU

To complete her outfit, Serena carried a red leather bag from Dolce & Gabbana and wore brown leather pumps. Serena retired from professional tennis after the 2022 US Open.

Coco Gauff looks up to Serena Williams before Olympic debut

Coco Gauff has always admired Serena Williams and looked up to her before heading to the Paris Olympics. As the World No. 2, the Florida native is expected to be a top contender for a gold medal in the upcoming event. In 2019, at just 15 years old, Gauff gained attention by defeating Venus Williams in the first round of Wimbledon.

You’ve been lucky enough that your on-court relationships have turned into off-court friendships. One of those notable friendships is with your idol, Serena Williams. Serena was once just a stranger printed on a poster hanging in your room, and now you still can’t believe she’s a friend and mentor.
Coco Gauff wrote in a letter on the NBC Olympics website

Despite her success, Gauff has never played against Serena, which she considers her only regret. She values her relationship with the 23-time Grand Slam champion, seeing her as both a friend and a mentor.

Gauff was supposed to compete in the Tokyo Olympics three years ago but missed out due to a COVID-19 infection. This time, she will make her Olympic debut in Paris. Starting from Day One, Gauff will be the flag bearer for Team USA alongside LeBron James.
